City of Lucas has a population of about 6,883 people and has 11.73 square mile. Lucas is a truly rural town: no main street, no downtown.
Lucas was named after Gabriel H. Lucas, son of an early settler, Peter Lucas, who arrived in 1944. City of Lucas is located north of Wylie and Parker. For many years the area was farmed for cotton and corn. In the 1940’s, the town had two stores a gin, a school a softball field and two churches.
The town has been incorporated in 1970.

Traditionally, homes have been built on minimum 1.5 acres lots where people can have horses and other farm animals.
Lately newer higher-end subdivisions are being built on smaller lot with no animal rights: cannot have horses or other small animals on the lot.
City has a fire department that serves the residents. Lucas does not have its own police department, but has a contract with Collin County Sheriff’s Office for one full-time person dedicated to Lucas.
Schools in Lucas are considered as being very good, although there are 6 schools districts for Lucas: Allen, Lovejoy, McKinney, Plano, Princeton and Wylie.
In 2014 in Lucas have been 106 home sales with sale prices between $200,000 and $1,960,000, and 17 of those have been new construction.
